Description: What TheCyclePeople say: Back in the beginning, BMX bikes were built for one thing ? bicycle motocross. They were 20? bicycles, ridden by kids, on motocross style courses. We pedaled, jumped, twisted and turned our way around little tracks. Then came freestyle and flatland. And then park bikes and jump bikes. And the jumps got bigger, on and off the track. Today?s bikes are lighter, stronger, and typically designed with a bias towards only one of the many disciplines of what was once a very singular-minded sport. The 2009 Mongoose Fraction is an excellent example. The frame is butted cromo, which is thicker at the ends, so welds can be super strong, then tapers in the middle, for lower weight. You?ll find that the handlebars are double butted cromo, for the same high strength, with even less weight. Naturally, the fork and three piece cranks are also made from chromoly. There?s a tiny 9 tooth driver on the rear cassette hub, mated to an alloy 25 tooth chainring up front. More weight savings, and nothing to hang up on those long grinds. Check out the rest of the spec. This bike is designed to be tossed about, spun around, hopped over, and jumped, without ever letting the rider down. Light, strong, purpose built.
